This is Peterborough - The Improvised Soap-Opera!! A great concept but is it going to work? It's what we have been stressing over here at You're In Control HQ for the past couple of weeks. As a theatre company that's had wide experience in promoting shows in Peterborough we know that interesting shows interest our fellow Peterborians but it is always a struggle to build up audience numbers. Now TIP is interesting (if nothing else) but will need the right promo campaign to sell it.
But all this had to be put on hold as we had our first meeting with our improvisors!! We all met in the Key Studio, where the show will take place. We warmed-up, got to know each other, got to know the show and then got to test out the show's concepts. And with a big 'hooray!!' I could finally relax. These guys and gals are amazing and will make the show hilarious, thought-provoking and an experience not to be missed.
The first rehearsal really inspired me to go back to YIC HQ and put that energy into the marketing for the show!! After a while we finished messing around with our promo pic and, in my oppunion, we've finished off with a very nice poster!! It's not got the wow factor but it shows off the qualities of the show without being to tacky but still being eye-catchy. But before it goes to print it needs to be liked by the cast. So look out cast; next monday get ready to be my marketing consultants!! :D

This is Peterborough - The Improvised Soap-Opera BEGINS and the Old Still
Well...
Here we go... We've got the improvisors, the venue, the committee, the marketing ideas. Let's begin!!
Last week I went to Hampton Hargate to meet up with the HATS group once more to give a mini workshop to show them what the rehearsals and the shows would be like. To my pleasure a lot of them signed-up to do the show and now we have our cast (nearly). There's just one or two that need to confirm that they can do the dates.
We've picked every Monday to rehearse and I'm just off to e-mail Paul Collings to ask him for
the rehearsal space from the 12th April onwards!! :D As soon as you know it we'll be up and running in no time!! :D
Also, on the YIC calender are three ventures we are bringing to you all with the huge help from the Old Still. It is now an art studio and gallery but they are letting me do some theatre in there as well. Last Saturday I ran an instant song creation workshop there and we had huge fun, what a fantastic group of singers we had!! Because of that success I'm planning to do a workshop there every month. The next one is 'Improvise an Entire Play Workshop' on the 24th April. No-one has signed up for it yet :( but it is early days yet!! :D

Also we are running the city's very first 'Performer's Forum'. An event where performers from the city come together and chat, network, debate and talk about the arts scene in Peterborough and what we want to see happen in the future. It is on this thursday, it's free and it'll be a laugh!!

And the last also... We are very close to confirming a new show idea that we will perform at the Old Still at the end of May. The show will be called 'Men - Inspired by Women' and it'll be a physical theatre - dance cross-over about men inspired by 10 interviews from women. It's a very interesting concept and one that we're very excited about here at YIC HQ!! :D
We'll keep you posted when some more exciting news crops up...
